A report of the Over Sixties Rally held at Felixstowe by Sunshine Club Leader, Betty Burrows: “Oh we do like to be beside the seaside!” Those were the sentiments echoed by members of the Sunshine Club as we arrived at Felixstowe with our friends from The Salvation Army Chatteris Friendship Club. After an excellent lunch at the Waverly Hotel, we enjoyed a short walk along the promenade to the Spa Pavilion. This was where the Anglia Division Over Sixties Rally was to take place, under the guidance of special guests, Majors Eric and Valerie Blake. The theme of the day was the ‘Fabulous Fifties’ and everyone was invited to dress in 1950’s fashion! After greeting many friends from other Salvation Army churches, we settled down to enjoy the traditional sing-a-long before the main programme began. During the interval, there was time for some of us to sit outside in the beautiful sunshine, while others went off to get ready for the pageant. It was indeed an honour for us to have in our coach two celebrities! There was Doris Day from Chatteris and Histon’s very own Roy Orbison (alias Reg Coxall). The Rally proved to be an afternoon packed with laughter, song and drama with excellent music provided by the Band. I am sure everyone will agree that the ultimate climax to a wonderful day was to hear a theatre packed with people sing the Millennium Prayer.
