Captains Log November 2006 PDF Print E-mail

Dear Friends,

How are you doing?  That’s a question we often ask each other when we meet a family member or friend.  We ask it as we are genuinely interested in how the person is doing because we care about them.  It also means a great deal to us when someone asks us and they are genuinely interested because it shows that they care for us.

I am sure you have all met someone who has asked you how you are and before you have even given a response they have moved on to speaking to someone else!  It is not very polite and it certainly gives the impression that they are not very concerned in how you are.

I wonder how often we ask each other how we are doing when it comes to our faith in God?  Do we ask each other how our relationship with God is going, how our prayer life is or what we have been reading in the Bible lately?  Are we genuinely interested in other people’s spiritual well being?  I am sure that we all care but might be that we’re afraid to ask the tough questions because of how the other person might respond.  Perhaps we’re afraid people might ask us the tough questions!  I hope it means a lot though when people do ask because our faith in God matters so much.

This month we are privileged to have with us the leadership team of Anglia Divisional Headquarters to conduct a Health Clinic.  They are spending a week with us to find out how we are doing when it comes to having a balanced and healthy life as a church in connection with the vision for the church.  So we say thanks to our DHQ for asking how we are doing and being genuinely interested in what we have to say because they do care how we are doing.  It means a lot, doesn’t it?

Above all, I thank God that He is genuinely interested in how we are doing each and every day of our lives, however young or old we are.     As an old Salvation Army chorus states, “I’ll trust my Father in Heaven for I know that He cares for me.”  It means a lot to have a God like that who loves you, doesn’t it?  I certainly hope it does!
May God bless you,
Paul Wood
